Burlington’s Paramount Theater prepares for expansion, new director

By: Sarah Winkelmann | Oct 3, 2023

Burlington, NC (WGHP) - The Paramount Theater in downtown Burlington will close its doors for about a year to make some major changes. The historic theater was built in 1928 then renovated in 1998 and in 2024. Now, a $7 million expansion is coming.

The area by the main lobby and the stage will stay pretty much the same with just a few small updates like the carpet. But over in the annex portion with the concession stand and bathrooms, all of it will be taken down so they can not only build out from the wall but also up to the brand-new rooftop deck.

City council OKs new layout for Paramount Theater expansion

Burlington, NC (Alamance News) - Burlington’s city council has decided to raise the proverbial curtain on an expansion of the Paramount Theater that could cost as much as $7 million for the city to design and construct.

This proposed expansion, which the council agreed to proceed with this week, would occupy the space left vacant by the demolition of the former Moorefield Florist building, which formerly stood next to the city-owned theater. The city originally purchased the old flower shop as a potential adjunct to the theater’s premises several years ago. Yet, earlier this year, the city council chose to demolish, rather than preserve, the existing building and directed a hired consultant to rough out a new, more ambitious vision for the Paramount’s expansion.
