Our Non-Profit Community

Downtown Burlington is more than just shopping and dining.
We have a dedicated community of leaders committed to building healthier ecosystems for stronger educational, health, economic, and social outcomes.
Here are a few organizations that improve our city and county that are located in downtown Burlington:

The Burlington Downtown Corporation

Burlington’s Downtown Corporation (BDC) creates an environment for downtown redevelopment by engaging community stakeholders and partners, and inspires investment, business development, and job growth. The City of Burlington has charged the BDC to administer the Main Street America ™ model of establishing economic development strategies and applying the Main Street Four-Point Approach® to downtown revitalization.

Impact Alamance

Impact Alamance started as a result of Alamance Regional Medical Center’s merger with Cone Health. The original $54 million dollar investment is Cone Health’s commitment to further improve the health of Alamance County through impact investing and coalition building with a focus on three key areas: healthy kids, healthy communities, and the community health fund.

United Way

United Way aims to radically decrease the number of families in poverty by advancing social equity practices that promote social mobility and provide opportunities that build a resilient community. This non-profit is fighting to lift families out of poverty by funding in the areas of education, health, and financial stability.

Christmas Cheer

Christmas Cheer is a nonprofit charity dedicated to sharing the Spirit of Christmas with the underprivileged children and elderly of Alamance County; It was founded over 100 years ago. From that very first year and as Christmas Cheer continues today, they devote themselves to seeing that no child in Alamance County wakes up on Christmas morning without a present under their tree. They have also expanded their mission to include caring for the elderly.

The Burlington Woman’s Club

The Burlington Woman's Club is an organization of women who are devoted to improving the community by contributing time, talent, and enthusiasm. BWC operates a Thrift Shop in downtown Burlington. In addition to providing good quality, affordable clothing and small housewares, the profits are reinvested in the local, state, and global community through scholarships and donations to carefully selected agencies.

Elon University Downtown Center for Community Engagement

The Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement has a permanent presence in downtown Burlington. The location will facilitate service opportunities for Elon students through partnerships with more than 80 of the county’s nonprofit and human service agencies.
